Four-time Academy Award winner Katherine Hepburn stars as earnest, inept but endearing social climber Alice Adams. The daughter of a modest, working-class family, Alice Adams believes that her future does not lie in hard work or talent, but rather in marrying well. She catches the eye of wealthy bachelor Arthur Russel (Fred MacMurray), who's charmed by Alice's desperate attempts to appear upper class. And when Arthur insists on meeting Alice's parents, she goes to great effort and expense to host a lavish dinner. Of course everything that can go wrong does go hysterically wrong--including a drunk and surly servant (Academy Award winner Hattie McDaniel). But during the disaster, Alice realizes that Arthur loves her for who she is rather than who she is trying to be.
