Light Yagami comes across a strange black notebook that can supposedly kill whoever's name is written within it.

Ryuk warns Light that he is being tailed by an FBI investigator, and Light begins a series of tests with the Death Note to figure out how to lose his pursuer.

When Light receives a phone call from L, Light realises that he is suspected of being Kira. Ryuk proposes to give Light the Shinigami Eye in exchange for certain conditions.

Episode 4

Suspecting that Mark Dwellton met with Kira before his death, L plants cameras and bugs in the houses of families Mark was following. Light realises this and formulates a plan to temporarily prove his innocence to the task force members.

Misa confesses to Light that she has the shinigami eyes and offers to help him. L suspects a second Kira's involvement in the killings.

Misa gives up the ownership of the notebook and loses all her memories related to it. Light turns himself in as the real Kira.
