Steve Harvey

Born Broderick Stephen Harvey, Steve Harvey was a professional comedian, actor, host, producer and author. Named Broderick by his coal miner father Jesse Harvey and his mother Eloise Vera, Harvey's given first name was in honor of actor Broderick Crawford, an actor on "Highway Patrol" (1955-59), a syndicated crime television show. Harvey was born in West Virginia, but his family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where Harvey attended high school and lived on a street that in 2015 was rechristened "Steve Harvey Way." Harvey graduated high school and attended college as an undergraduate at two universities, Kent State and West Virginia University. Harvey began performing standup comedy in the early 1980s. It was a struggle, and Harvey was homeless for several years, sleeping in his car when he was unable to afford lodging. In a 1990 Johnnie Walker Comedy Search Contest, Harvey became a finalist, a break that led him to his first professional television hosting opportunity, replacing comedian Mark Curry as the host of "It's Showtime at The Apollo" (NBC, 1987-2008). His work led to his starring role on "Me & the Boys" (ABC, 1994-95) and his own show "The Steve Harvey Show" (WB, 1996-02). Harvey was also the host of the weekday morning radio program "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" (2000-). Harvey was also the host of "Steve Harvey" (syndicated 2012-17) and in 2017 it was announced that Harvey would host another syndicated talk show "Steve," premiering in the autumn of that year. Harvey was also the author of the self-help books "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" and "Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find and Keep a Man." Harvey also began hosting the long-running game show "Family Feud" (Syndicated 1999-) in 2010 and hosted the prime-time spinoff "Celebrity Family Feud" (ABC 2015-), as well as "Little Big Shots" (NBC 2016-) and competition series "Steve Harvey's Funderdome" (ABC 2017-). Harvey also took over as host of the Miss Universe pageant in 2015.
