Untold Stories
S1, E4: Controversy seems to follow the Brazilian medium wherever he goes. Non-believers are intent on disproving his abilities while religious interests debate whether Xavier was the reincarnation of Spiritism founder Allan Kardec. In 1944, the widow of Humberto de Campos files a lawsuit against Xavier with the intention of determining if her late husband dictated “Brasil, Coração do Mundo, Pátria do Evangelho”, and if so, to gain control over the literary work’s copyright. The case opens the debate over pyschography’s standing in the courts. In spite of the controversies, Xavier develops a loyal following that paves the way for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination and the spread of spiritism abroad.
