18th-century Brazil. The country is being ruled by corrupt colonial officers. Joaquim is an efficient soldier, famous for capturing gold smugglers. When he leaves for a risky mission, the injustice he sees galvanizes him to become Tiradentes, the first leader of the Brazilian revolutionary movement.
