Aditya Chopra

Fiercely private and notoriously press-shy, Aditya Chopra is an award-winning actor, writer, and director whose credits include such popular Indian films as "Dhoom" and "Veer-Zaara." Chopra, the son of successful Bollywood producer and filmmaker Yash Chopra, began working for his father on films like "Lamhe" and "Darr." After spending several years working as an assistant director, in 1995 Chopra wrote and directed "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," about a couple who must overcome cultural and familial differences in order to be together, a theme in many of Chopra's films. It was an immediate critical and commercial success and won numerous awards. Chopra next worked as a writer on his father's 1997 blockbuster film, "Dil To Pagal Hai," for which he also served as producer. Preferring to direct only films he has written, he released the romantic drama "Mohabbatein" in 2000 to commercial and critical success. The film, which was nominated for numerous acting and writing awards, also helped launch his brother Uday's acting career. Chopra produced many popular films through the early 2000's, and in 2004 he wrote the screenplay for "Veer-Zaara," which became the top-grossing Bollywood film that year. In 2006, Chopra and his father built Yash Raj Studios, which has released many popular Indian and Bollywood films, including "Fanaa,""Partner," and "Dostana." In 2008 Chopra directed his third film, "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi," a romantic comedy about a a timid office worker who is transformed by his love for a woman.
