Burr DeBenning

Burr DeBenning

While you may not recognize his name, you'd likely know Burr DeBenning's face, as this character actor has worked on nearly 90 film and television projects over 30 years. Perhaps best remembered as the gilled Aguila on the Robert Wagner science-fiction TV movie, "City Beneath the Sea," DeBenning got his start in television in 1965 with a bit part on the long-running soap opera "Search for Tomorrow." He built his TV career throughout the 1960s, making a splash in 1971 in the Pacifica-set "City Beneath the Sea." A dependable day player, DeBenning made a career of one-off roles, sometimes snagging several in the same series, though he did earn the occasional recurring role, like his nine-episode arc as Ed Thompson on the sun-soaked soap opera "Santa Barbara," which centered on the exploits of the wealthy Capwells. While he was predominantly a TV actor, DeBenning's cult status, from his "City Beneath the Sea" role, sometimes scored him work in genre films like the gruesome science-fiction horror movie "The Incredible Melting Man" and the fifth installment of the Freddy Krueger film series,"A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child." After a long career, DeBenning retired in the early 1990s. He died at the age of 66.
