Specializing in an easy, mellow sound that recalls Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town, the duo Smithfield released their eponymous debut album in 2015 and gained momentum with subsequent singles "When You're Gone" and "Hey Whiskey." Childhood friends Trey Smith and Jennifer Fiedler, whose Dallas families had known each other since the days of their grandparents, formed Smithfield in 2011. Smith had been playing rock in Houston but once his band split, he reconnected with Fiedler via Facebook. Soon, they formed a country duo. They relocated to Nashville and landed a contract with Bigger Picture Music Group, but the label went belly up before releasing any Smithfield music. The group launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their eponymous debut, which appeared in 2015. The single "When You're Gone" appeared in 2017, followed by "Hey Whiskey" in 2018. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
