Living in the shadow of their father (Brian Cox), a celebrated no-nonsense police chief, Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are determined to solve the brutal murder of a 12 year-old girl. When Jason Buleigh (Ben Crompton), a local re-offender with a sordid criminal past is brought in for questioning, the brothers know they have their man. Blind with conviction to unearth the truth Ben and Chrissie drive Buleigh out to the remote sandflats to force a confession, but their extreme interrogation soon goes too far, plunging the brothers' lives and the investigation into chaos.
