Kevin Conroy

A Juilliard-trained actor with a virile, take-charge inflection, Kevin Conroy spent much of the 1980s touring the theater circuit before advancing into the world of television with appearances on such soap operas and TV movies as "Dynasty," "Another World," and "Chain of Desire." In 1992, Conroy landed the role of Batman's voice on the beloved "Batman: The Animated Series," becoming the first voice actor to distinguish the Caped Crusader from alter-ego Bruce Wayne with a key shift in modulation. Conroy has since vocalized the superhero in dozens of animated movies, video games, and television shows. Many of these projects, such as the theatrically released "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" and the spotlight-spreading "Justice League Unlimited," have taken place in the same continuous universe as Conroy's debut series. Other releases of his, such as the striking anime anthology "Batman: Gotham Knight," represent unique takes on the DC-Comics-originated franchise. All told, Conroy has more Batman portrayals under his figurative utility belt than any other actor, making him the character's definitive impersonator in the eyes (and ears) of many diehard fans. Conroy self-parodied his square Batman persona with a tongue-in-cheek depiction of a taboo superhero on the animated series "The Venture Bros." Kevin Conroy died in New York City on November 10, 2022 at the age of 66.
