Born in Detroit, Michigan, DeShaun Dupree Holton, known professionally as Proof, was an American rapper. From a young age, Holton was close friends with Eminem. In 1996, Holton, originally known as Maximum, under the moniker "Proof," formed D12, "The Dirty Dozen." In 1999, Holton was featured in The Source's "Unsigned Hype." His first television appearance was in Aaliyah's "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number" video. In 2000, Proof performed as a hype man for Eminem in the Up In Smoke Tour. He gained further exposure in 2001 with the release of D12's debut album, "Devil's Night." The following year, Proof collaborated with Dogmatic on "Promatic" and joined Eminem's "Anger Management" tour. He appeared in the film, "8 Mile" (2002). Proof also had a cameo role in "The Longest Yard" (2005), appearing as "Basketball Convicts" during the credits. Proof released a solo album on August 9, 2005. In 2006, he performed on the Gold Coast tour. DeShaun Holton, aka Proof, passed away during an altercation on April 11, 2006.
