S1, E1: Inspired by iconic television shows of the 1950s, Paul Reubens hones his performance art skills at LA’s CalArts and The Groundlings, where he creates the alter-ego Pee-wee Herman. When his 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure becomes a global sensation, Ruebens subsumes himself in his character – and begins to recognize too late that fame is a complicated companion.
