Ashley Collins is trying to escape. Though she fantasizes about passionately kissing another 17-year-old girl, in reality, she has no friends. In reality, she barely communicates with the outside world. In reality, she cuts herself. The deep cuts have caused extensive scarring on Ashley’s arm, which she hides with a long sleeve shirt. She’s always hiding. Vincent, the school therapist, isn’t able get her to talk, let alone help her. Her mother, Stacy, is more concerned with the bottle and spends her time staring at a photo of her lost husband… a loss she blames on Ashley. Ashley thinks she makes a connection when she meets a young girl named Vicky. They share a kiss and cut one another’s palms to share blood. But Vicky finds it too hard to handle and Ashley is crushed. Ashley feels she’ll never connect with anyone, and becomes even more removed. Soon Ashley is taunted and beaten by her former “friends” at school for being a cutter. As much as Ashley tries to escape, she cannot. She tries to escape the sounds of Stacey and her new fling Bill’s moans coming through her bedroom wall. She cannot even escape the devilish advances of Bill by internalizing her pain. Until she meets Candice. In an online chat room, Candice makes Ashley smile like never before. Soon they meet and form a bond. Maybe Candice will be the salvation that Ashley needs, but, knowing Ashley’s past, will she ever trust anyone again?
