Great Expectations

Pip is a blacksmith's apprentice who one night runs afoul of escaped prisoner Magwitch. Pip helps him, but Magwitch is nevertheless caught. Not long after, Pip's neighbor, Miss Havisham, invites him over to meet her daughter, Estella. Pip develops a strong attraction, but Estella merely regards him as a plaything. It's not until Pip inherits a fortune from an anonymous patron that he's able to rise socially and pursue her in earnest.
