My Father's Footsteps: Letters to the Fallen
This award winning documentary film is based on the life of a U. S. Air Force Flight Medic who wrote letters to his father after returning from several missions in the middle-east four years after he passed away (in 2005). This was done to fill an emotional void left behind because his father, who served in the U. S. Army in the 1950's died just three days before he could share his experience of serving in an all Black unit overseas while in support of the Korean conflict. Ten years later after having his own son, the now retired Flight Medic decided to document both stories to preserve both legacies. The story was then told to the young son about his father and grandfather's service whom he never met.
