Using his unscrupulous legal cunning, attorney Martin Knapek (Judd Hirsch) walks away from rape charges brought by a career-minded woman, Elizabeth Early (Veronica Hamel). After the charge is overturned in court, Knapek decides to violate Elizabeth once more by suing her for libel. District Attorney Doris Cantore (Lee Grant) -- still reeling from the missed opportunity to convict the rapist -- helps Elizabeth build a legal defense against the slithery Knapek.
