Lord and Lady Greystroke are marooned on the coast of Africa when they are killed and their son is taken and raised by Kala, a female ape. The boy grows up as part of the jungle. When it is discovered he is the Greystoke heir, a search party is sent, and he returns to civilization with Jane at his side. Based on the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This is the first of many Tarzan films, and it premiered just six years after the initial publication of Edgar Rice Burroughs' popular tale. Existing prints are radically shorter than the original movie, which was more than two hours long.
