The Gift
On April 14, 2004, during the height of the war in Iraq, Corporal Jason L. Dunham threw himself on a live grenade to protect his fellow Marines. He died 8 days later at Bethesda Naval Hospital after his parents made the decision to end life support. In 2007, Corporal Dunham was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions that day. He was the first Marine to receive such an honor since the Vietnam war.
