On the elegant streets of 1913 Vienna, as Europe teeters toward war, an unlikely friendship forms between two young men with vastly different destinies. Hugo, a privileged musician, explores his psyche with Sigmund Freud, while Adolf, a rejected artist, embraces vegetarianism and the allure of German nationalism. Their paths cross in the twilight of the Habsburg Empire, unaware that one will vanish from memory while the other will orchestrate history's greatest atrocities.
