Windigo is a transposition of Joseph Conrad’s famous novel, Heart of Darkness, which had also served as the basis of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Windigo is the second feature film directed by Robert Morin. In this film, Morin addresses a complex political theme, tinged with native culture and echoing the 1990 Oka Crisis in Quebec. “Windigo is a film that says we’re all somebody’s aboriginals, we want to have our cake and eat it too.” says Robert Morin. Shot in 1994, Windigo remains highly topical.
