Boyz II Men

With their sweet harmonies and throwback style, Boyz II Men exploded onto the R&B scene in the early '90s. As students at Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, the members of the group would practice their harmonies in the bathrooms, where teachers were less likely to find them and acoustics were top notch. Eventually, the members attended a 1989 New Edition concert, where after sneaking backstage, they were able to sing for Michael Bivins. He agreed to produce their band, and soon the group was signed to Motown Records. They released their debut, Cooleyhighharmony, in 1991 to massive success. The record's multi-layered drums and background samples were in keeping with the popular New Jack Swing sound, and pushed Cooleyhighharmony to sell nine million copies and win a Grammy award. The group's second album, II was even more successful, selling 12 million copies on the back of hit single "I'll Make Love to You." Subsequent albums such as 1997's Evolution and 2002's Full Circle were less commercially viable, and member Michael McCary would leave the group in 2003, but Boyz II Men continued to tour and record. The headlined a Love Cruise in 2012 during which they gave special performances for attendees, and in 2014 they released the album Collide.
