Andy, Barney, and Gomer take Opie and a couple of his friends on a camping trip. When Opie leaves early in the morning to pick berries, Barney and Gomer go looking for him but end up getting lost in the woods.

Opie and his friend Howie make their own newspaper, the Mayberry Sun, but nobody buys it. After Andy and Barney encourage him to print more interesting stories, Opie decides to publish all the gossip from around town.

Opie and his friends become involved in a scheme selling worthless salve. Barney and Gomer disguise themselves and head to Mount Pilot to fool two salve cons into buying all their salve back.
