In the season twelve premiere, Chef Ramsay splits the twenty competing chefs into two teams. For the first challenge, each team prepares a signature dish.

An all new set of contestants tries to impress Chef Gordon Ramsay with their culinary skills in order to win the coveted position of head chef at New York City's BLT Steak restaurant.

The teams compete in a tricycle relay race in which the chefs work in pairs to complete basic culinary tasks. The winners go on a dinner date with Chef Ramsay in San Francisco.

After digging up 100 pounds of potatoes, the teams aim to delight Chef Ramsay with potato-based dishes.

In this episode, the remaining contestants receive a wakeup call from clowns. They must prepare pasta and quesadillas for fifty kids and panini sandwiches for their moms.

Chef Ramsay gives the contestants a chicken challenge that includes catching live fowl. The winners spend a day riding in go-karts while the losers prepare chickens for the next service.
