Mary Chieffo

Mary Chieffo followed her character actor parents into the business, and her path eventually took her towards one of the biggest sci-fi franchises in TV history. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Chieffo was the daughter of actors Beth Grant and Michael Chieffo. She made her onscreen debut at the tender age of 3, playing "sleeping girl" in the short film "Making Sandwiches" (1998), directed by Sandra Bullock. However, it would be another ten years before Chieffo made her way back onto the screen, appearing in such indie projects as "Natural Disasters" (2008), "Herpes Boy" (2009), "Girls! Girls! Girls!" (2011), and "Miss Dial" (2013). While appearing in films and plays, Chieffo managed to also earn her BFA from the Juilliard School's Drama Division in 2015, becoming the first legacy in the Division's 50-year history (her father also matriculated through the program). In 2017, Chieffo scored her big break when she was cast as the Klingon leader L'Rell in the spinoff series based on Gene Roddenberry's universe, "Star Trek: Discovery" (CBS All Access, 2017-).
