Randall Keenan Winston

Randall Winston is an American TV producer who, along with partner Bill Lawrence, is best known for his work on the hit NBC sitcom "Scrubs." Winston was raised in Harvey, Illinois, and attended Ohio University where he met and roomed with Lawrence. After graduating from college, Winston worked first as production supervisor and later as an associate producer, on various 1990s sitcoms. In 1996, he teamed up with series co-creator Bill Lawrence on the Michael J. Fox-starred comedy "Spin City," and again in 2001 for the madcap medical series "Scrubs," on which Winston also played the peripheral character Leonard the security guard. The pivotal male friendships on both shows--Carter Heywood (Michael Boatman) and Stuart Bondek (Alan Ruck) on "Spin City" and J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff) and Chris Turk (Donald Faison) on "Scrubs"--were, according to Lawrence, inspired by his close friendship with Winston. Winston got a further tribute on "Spin City": the affable but inneffectual mayor of New York played by Barry Bostwick was named Randall Winston in his honor. In 2009, Winston joined Lawrence yet again as producer of the Courtney Cox sitcom "Cougar Town."
