Steve Bastoni

Italian-born Australian actor Steve Bastoni is well-known in his home country, but not quite a household name internationally. Bastoni's first high-profile role came in the women's convict drama "Prisoner," where he had a recurring role in 1986 (under the name Steve Baston). It was also around this time that he had a guest spot on the show he would later be most identified with: the long-running soap, "Neighbours." He had a few other parts in Australian films, but his career took off when he was given a lead role in the popular Aussie crime drama "Police Rescue" playing Constable Yiannis Angeloupolos for five seasons and in a 1994 film. His increased profile helped land him the role of Captain Soren in the sc-fi sequel "The Matrix Reloaded" in 2003, and Banquo in a 2006 adaptation of "Macbeth." A year later he returned to "Neighbours," but this time he began a two-year long stint on the enormously successful daytime drama playing veterinarian and family man Steve Parker, receiving critical acclaim for his role. After leaving the show, he had a six-episode part on the crime drama "Underbelly." Bastoni has also performed in high-profile stage productions such as the musical "Oliver!" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."
