A Good Game

In Potlotek First Nation in Nova Scotia, Terry Denny is bringing back the old tradition of hockey stick making. He takes John through the process of crafting this unique piece of sports equipment and fills him in on the cultural significance of these sticks.

The Chief Thunderstick tournament brings the top Indigenous hockey teams to one place to battle for rez hockey supremacy. This year, John is taking the helm of his home community’s Kitigan-Zibi Bulls as they attempt to win the championship.

The Anishinaabe community of Fort William First Nation has a beautiful arena. With two ice surfaces, this complex is bustling with activity and John discovers it’s the people behind the scenes that make it all come together.
