A dangerous virus begins to spread within a group of vulnerable homeless people in Montreal. How long will it take for Anne-Marie Leclerc, director of the Emergency Public Health Laboratory, to discover the existence of this highly contagious disease? Will she be too late to prevent a deadly epidemic? The lab is under the authority of minister Laurent Demers, who doesn't have as much faith in her as she deserves. Together they must track the virus to its origins and impose sometimes unpopular measures while preventing public panic. Facing a threat that discriminates against no one, paranoia, credulity, greed, self-sacrifice and heroism all intertwine. We experience the epidemic through the eyes of characters very much like ourselves.
