After her best friend Kel dies, Jacs returns to her hometown. When she gets there, she finds out that Kel had a secret affair with a man she only knows as Do Not Message, whom she believes was responsible for her friend's downfall.

Jacs' hunt for Do Not Message leads her to date local guys, which has unexpected implications as she faces intrusive thoughts of hurting the men she is intimate with.

Jacs focuses her investigation on Mick, a surfer with black hair that Kel used to follow on the internet. Jacs finds herself in a precarious situation when she and Mick argue over an intimate photo of Kel at his house.

With Mick ruled out as a suspect, Jacs shifts her focus to another man, Bronson, while her love for her childhood friend, Angus, deepens; Jacs is surprised when Do Not Message decides to meet her in person.
