Maurice, an eccentric and depressed children's author, celebrates his 61st birthday, but the day takes an awkward turn when he learns that his son, Donald, has stopped taking his medication. Additionally, tensions rise in the family when Deborah announces her plans for home-schooling their twins.

The Flowers family embarks on an unplanned camping trip to Dorset, courtesy of Maurice's decision. While Deborah is enthusiastic about the trip, she's taken aback when she discovers that Maurice has invited Shun, his paraplegic illustrator, along.

Maurice falls sick with man-flu, leading Deborah to seek assistance from some old friends. Meanwhile, Maurice takes this opportunity to reflect on his mortality.

Maurice and Deborah prepare to host a wedding anniversary party at their home. However, things take a dark and unexpected turn when Maurice accidentally creates a painting depicting Deborah's suicidal image.

Maurice's mother, Joan, who is less than pleasant, imposes herself on the Flowers family, causing chaos and refusing to depart until Maurice reenacts his childhood summer vacations.

With only one day to prepare for the renewal of her wedding vows, Deborah wakes up in a state of panic. Additionally, Maurice has a book signing event scheduled to take place at their home.
