Gordita Chronicles

After saying farewell to their friends and family in the Dominican Republic, the Castellis move to Miami and are immediately hit by a cultural shock wave. After learning that her lifelong nickname of “Gordita” is not a compliment, Cucu promises to bring a world-famous celebrity to the school dance in a panicked effort to fit in with her new classmates. Meanwhile, Víctor quickly finds himself in a pickle at his new job, and Emilia deals with the repercussions of her first kiss with an American boy.

After receiving an “F,” Cucu leaves Spanish behind and commits to only speaking English – until her newly acquired language skills land her in even bigger trouble. Meanwhile, Víctor devises an elaborate marketing plan to help his new boss remember his name, an overeager Adela accidentally offends her two new friends, and Emilia finds herself in the crosshairs of the ever-popular Bubblegum Girls

Following her first American sex-ed class, Cucu notices that her peers are developing much faster and attempts to kick-start puberty. After discovering that their Dominican driver’s licenses are invalid, Víctor and Adela must learn to drive “the American way.” Unaware of the nuances of American pop culture, Emilia accidentally agrees to accompany the Bubblegums to a horror movie – which happens to be her worst nightmare.

Cucu’s first American sleepover finds Adela full of reservations, before an embarrassing mix-up derails the night even further and threatens her budding friendship with Ashley. Ever the gentleman, Víctor is shocked to learn about a client meeting at an unseemly venue. After her parents refuse to give her an allowance, Emilia gets her first job as a babysitter.

Cucu is determined to make her first American Halloween legendary – until she receives an impromptu visit from her old-school Dominican grandmother. After discovering her phone number scribbled in the boys’ bathroom, Emilia enlists the Bubblegum Girls to help place a brujería spell on the prime suspect. Adela and Víctor attempt to enjoy some rare alone time, only to be interrupted by throngs of trick-or-treaters.

While selling gift wrap to Víctor’s co-workers for a school fundraiser, Cucu meets an unexpected rival. Meanwhile, Víctor competes against a fellow VP to generate a new Starboard Air slogan, Adela partakes in a not-sofriendly game of dominoes to win back the best table in the courtyard, and Emilia competes for the attention of a cute boy at her first American pool party.
