Rusty begins his freshman year at Cyprus-Rhodes University determined to change his life and rush a fraternity. However, his sister Casey, who is already ensconced as a sorority siren and is none-too-keen on having her younger brother invade her world. From the start their family bond is tested as Rusty heads into rush week and discovers information that could hurt his sister and could jeopardize his bid for the most prestigious fraternity.

Rusty, Calvin, and Rebecca Logan go through initiation at their respective houses, Kappa Tau, Omega Chi and Zeta Beta. Rusty struggles to juggle classes and initiation as his commitment to Dale and the physics class assignment come into direct conflict with the beer pong competition against the Omega Chis; Casey, in her attempt to punish Rebecca Logan for sleeping with Evan, gives her the most challenging scavenger hunt assignment and is later exposed to the heightening the rivalry between the two.

Omega Chi and Kappa Tau both organize respective date nights. When Cappie sees Rusty stressed about getting a date for the social, he realizes it's because Rusty is a virgin and seeks to remedy it. Despite her plan to turn things around with Evan during date night, Casey is unable to sit still when she hears this news and goes to the Kappa Tau house to save Rusty from making a big mistake, as we find out Cappie was Casey's first.

In the midst of the floor hockey tournament, Evan questions Casey's loyalty, given that her brother and ex-boyfriend are both Kappas. Casey quells that suspicion by successfully carrying out a plan to make the Kappas too hungover for their game against the Omega Chis. Rusty, desperate to play for the team but without a single athletic bone in his body, gets the help of Dale who suggests they take a scientific approach to the game. This comes in handy when, with all the brothers drunk, Cappie has no choice but to allow Rusty to play.

When the Kappa Taus have trouble making the volcano for their legendary Mt. Vesuvius party work properly, Rusty volunteers to make it happen. With the help of Dale and Jen K, a ZBZ pledge, Rusty is able to steal an outmoded atmospheric destabilizing module to plant inside the volcano for the eruption effect; Casey and Evan are back on track and Evan introduces Casey to his parents over dinner - but Rebecca makes an unexpected appearance and instantly bonds with Evan's parents, leaving Casey to feel like an outsider of this blue-blood clan.

On a windy, rainy night, Cappie is visited by a beautiful, mysterious girl named Destiny who turns out to be "Patty the Fatty" who has loved Cappie obsessively since their days at camp; over at the ZBZ house, Casey plans a slumber party to bond with the pledges but the night takes a dramatic turn when Ashleigh reveals that a girl named Virginia hung herself in the house; Evan and Calvin, also braving the storm and lack of electricity, bond through the adventure of trying to kill the house rat.
