In Flanders Field

In Ghent, 1914, Belgian father Philippe struggles to accept that the German army will invade, even as discontent mounts and soldiers are mobilized.

While Phillipe curries favor and hosts German officers, Guillaume must act resourcefully in a deserter's prison and Vincent has to fight to survive.

Guillaume is released, and Christmas brings a seasonal relief from the war, but living under German rule proves tricky for the family.

The German advance stalls; Vincent feels delighted when his brother gets enlisted; Marie joins the resistance in Ghent.

Vincent grows tired of the senseless bloodshed at the Yser; Guillaume takes charge of officer entertainment; life in Ghent becomes increasingly complex.
