A young murdered French woman is found on Twickenham Green in London in 2004. DCI Colin Sutton of the Met is tasked to investigate.

A Police Constable tells Sutton about a statement a woman gave on another murder. That man also has a white van.

After arresting Bellfield, Sutton only has 72 hours to tie him to three murders and an attempted murder - and he has to get other departments to co-operate with him or they can't win the case.

Colin is asked to carry out a review of Operation Minstead, an ongoing case described as a “black hole”.

Colin presents his review findings to DCS Hamish Campbell and suggests a strategy called 'Minstead Lite'. But Hamish wants Colin to stay on to see this new approach through.
