MeatEater's The Element

In this episode, Tyler and K.C. hit the Texas woods with their bows in search of some hog meat for the freezer. With a lot of pigs on camera, the boys are optimistic as they head into the field, but soon find this hunt isn’t going to be as easy as planned. kwhunting

With dreams of last year’s “NEBRASKA DOUBLE”, K.C. and Tyler head to the Husker State with big bucks in mind. They’re on a quest for some bigger deer, but it might require using some unfamiliar tactics. Hunting from the ground in a hay bale blind is foreign for these guys, but being flexible and doing what it take to get in range of mature bucks is a concept close to home for these fellas.

The Element fellas are joined by MeatEater's own, Garrett Long, for some invasive feral hog hunting. To access some solid hog hunting ground, they must cross a flooded section of river by jon boat. After narrowly escaping disaster, the crew sneaks through some timber to locate a pile of pigs.

River bottoms are crawling with pigs in Texas. However, you need to bust through the thick stuff to flush them out. It's tradition around these parts to chase hogs down in the dead of winter when they're fat and tasty. We've been doing it this way for quite some time. Tyler Jones and K.C. Smith look for any excuse to hunt the mountains out west whenever possible. When they heard rumors of talkative public land turkeys in the hills of New Mexico, they had to journey out to Merriam's Country and accept the challenge of calling in a mountain gobbler. The birds were a little sparse, but with some quality scouting efforts The Element boys earn their opportunity.
