Lesley Manville (Harlots) stars in this warm comedy as a woman managing the death of her husband and her daft family. Starting with the funeral in January and ending on New Year's Eve, the story unfolds through the events of a year.

January
It is the morning of Cathy's husband's funeral. Cathy battles her brother's partner and meets her son's new and over-enthusiastic girlfriend Kelly.

It's Cathy's first Valentine's Day since she lost her husband. Her brother comes round to keep her company but his partner wishes that she was anywhere else.

Cathy's family visit to help her clear out her garage. Kelly's mum comes round to take an old fridge, while Michael helps out too and also faces a decision.

It is a hot summer's day, and while Kelly and her cousin sunbathe in the garden, Cathy is getting ready to go for lunch with a new, male friend.

Jason has an interview for a job in Australia and Kelly is upset that she might have to move there. After a heavy night out, Michael ends up on Cathy's sofa.

Kelly and Jason argue at Cathy's New Year's Eve party. Cathy tries to find the right moment to give Michael his Christmas present.
