Barbary macaques are the only non-human primates found in Europe. There is a small population on Gibraltar although most live in the oak and cedar forests of Morocco and northern Algeria. They are also known as Barbary apes due to their lack of a tail, but they are actually Old World monkeys.

Grey herons are large, striking birds often spotted standing motionless at the water's edge. Having found a suitable location, herons stand and wait patiently for the right moment to stab passing prey with their dagger-like beaks.

The alpine marmot is a species of marmot found in mountainous areas of central and southern Europe. Alpine marmots live at heights between 800 and 3,200 metres in the Alps, Carpathians, Tatras, the Pyrenees and Northern Apennines in Italy.

Bison's are the largest land mammals in North America. Massive herds once roamed far and wide across the grasslands and savannahs of North America, from Alaska all the way down to Mexico.

Brown bears are some of the largest carnivores on Earth. They hunt alone except during seasonal spectacles such as salmon spawning which causes large numbers of bears to gather together. As well as fish, these fearsome predators can bring down moose, elk and even black bears.

Common cranes are the most widely distributed of all the cranes, breeding from Western Europe to Siberia. Monogamous pairs reinforce their bond with a series of calls and elaborate head jerks. Together the pair builds a ground nest within their wetland habitat from a mound of swampy vegetation.
