A known German terrorist, Birgitt Haas (Lisa Kreuzer) has been targeted for death, but a dicey political situation ties the hands of her would-be assassin, a French operative named Athanase (Philippe Noiret). Determined to take out Haas one way or another, Athanase manipulates Charles-Philippe Bauman (Jean Rochefort) into beginning a relationship with her, with the goal of pinning the murder on the hapless man. Unfortunately for Athanase, the scheme doesn't go according to plan.
