Danni Lowinski

After finishing her law degree in her early 30s, Danni unsuccessfully applies to a large law firm. Her friend Bea has a brilliant idea: they set up a table and two chairs in a shopping arcade, where Danni offers legal advice for one euro per minute. Soon, her first case arrives in the form of Mayumi, a 50-year-old Filipina. Danni demonstrates empathy and assertiveness in taking her case.

Lutz Gallwitz, a single father, is accused by the youth welfare office of not properly caring for his three children – Jule (15), Jonas (6), and Nina (4). Danni Lowinski is initially optimistic and negotiates with the office. However, when she finds two of the children alone in a shopping mall the next day, and then discovers Jonas unattended at home, she realizes she's made a mistake. She decides to take action against Gallwitz.

Danni's new client is Mehmet, who was expelled from school for harassing a teacher. Mehmet insists he is innocent. Ms. Hagen, his teacher, felt threatened when Mehmet confronted her about poor grades despite his good performance. When Danni invites the faculty to give her a comprehensive view of the case, she's surprised: Ms. Hagen claims Mehmet raped her.

After her husband's death, Miriam faces a mountain of debt with her eight-year-old son. She risks losing her house because she can't afford the mortgage payments. Danni tries to help Miriam by proving in court that the banks failed to properly assess their customers' creditworthiness.

Danni's new case involves many unpredictable variables: 20-year-old Viktoria has cerebral palsy and doesn't have long to live. Her greatest wish is to be beautiful. She wants to undergo cosmetic surgery, but the health insurance company refuses to pay. When a court-appointed expert also diagnoses pure vanity instead of medical necessity, Viktoria commits a desperate act: she jumps from the second floor of the shopping mall.

Manni Goldmann, the security guard at the mall, is a single father desperately seeking a kindergarten spot for his son Malte. Danni gets him a place in a Catholic kindergarten by telling a lie. But her false claim that Malte is Jewish comes at a high price: while Malte gets to stay in the kindergarten, Danni receives a summons: they want to revoke her license to practice law.
