Finja, who is blind, initially thinks it's a fanciful pickup technique when she is approached by Sam and his deaf brother Jannik, who claim to have met her in a dream. However, unnerving encounters with ghostly children at night lead her to reconsider. Disturbed by this mysterious experience, Finja teams up with the brothers to search for Ruben, a disabled young man who was also a part of the dream. Their journey intertwines reality and fantasy, drawing them into a world where dreams hold the key to unlocking hidden truths.

Ruben persuades German military pilot Romy to show them evidence of supernatural phenomena at Poppenberg, a place where the Pied Piper vanished with the children in the Middle Ages. The footage has an unexpectedly intense impact on Finja, and much to Sam’s dismay, it seems to support Ruben’s claims. Later, while examining Peter Roth's patient files, they finally discover a clue about the Pied Piper.

Following a tense encounter with their comatose father, artist Bruno Mannheimer, brothers Jannik and Sam reconstruct his light and sound installation. Through this, Finja, Jannik, and Ruben experience events from the Middle Ages, inadvertently catching the attention of the Pied Piper.

Finja's father, Peter, is attacked by a ghostly apparition, a terrifying event he hides from his daughter. Meanwhile, at Poppenberg, Ruben and Romy find themselves in peril. Though Romy manages to escape, Ruben falls into the clutches of the Pied Piper. Fearing for their safety, Sam wants to leave the town, but Finja, Jannik, and Romy are determined not to abandon Ruben. As they band together to save their friend, they uncover secrets that challenge their courage and test the bonds of friendship.

Finja's encounter with Christian, the spirit of her medieval love, unveils a haunting legacy: only by atoning for their past sins can her parents hope to weaken the Pied Piper. However, her father Peter, along with Regina, the mother of Jannik and Sam, and Inspector Eric Zastrow deny any wrongdoing. As they grapple with their denial, it's Jamila, a doctor skilled in magic, who stands with Finja and her friends. Together, they embark on a quest to confront the ghosts of the past and find a path to redemption before it's too late.

As the parents refuse to atone for their dark secrets, the Pied Piper gains a critical advantage. Freed from his bonds, he embarks on a path of bloody vengeance. Only Erik Zastrow shows remorse, yet he is prevented from acting. Emotionally devastated, Finja, Jannik, and Ruben, with Romy's assistance, confront the Pied Piper and his army of ghostly children.
