Anne and Erik are basically an average couple in the second decade of their marriage. Their son is going through puberty, erotic sparks are only a vague memory, and everyday life is dominated by organizational matters. On Anne's birthday, the situation escalates. On the one hand, this is due to Erik's boring gift, and on the other, to the parents involved, who are quite incompatible. In the end, Anne and Erik find themselves in couples therapy with Dr Heller and realize that their marriage is on the rocks. It is just then that Anne's father Ludwig is diagnosed with dementia. An inopportune moment – after all, both Anne and Erik work in Ludwig's company. Can it work to go through a marriage crisis and share the same workplace?

Anne and Erik's second therapy session with Mrs. Heller leads to their temporary spatial separation, and Erik moves back in with his parents as a transitional measure. While he is back in his childhood bedroom, Anne enjoys her new freedom in a house without a man. Meanwhile, the pubescent Leon and his girlfriend Amina grow closer, and at Papa Ludwig's request, the family visits a nursing home for dementia patients. Both events have unforeseen consequences.

While Papa Ludwig is fully reliant on his son-in-law in his company, Anne is trying to get rid of her husband, both professionally and privately. With the help of a headhunter, she looks for a replacement for Erik and finds young, dedicated Belinay Lobenstein, who immediately encourages her to act with more confidence. A completely pointless endeavor, as Erik sees it, especially in light of an upcoming meeting with important clients, in which Anne really has no business participating, in his opinion. When she nevertheless wants to come along, a scandal promptly ensues.

In order to win back the regular customer Erik and Anne have alienated, Ludwig proposes a dinner for everyone involved, which means nothing other than a couples' night out. For the good of the company, Anne agrees, even though she is not only at odds with Erik professionally, but also in terms of raising Leon, who has got it into his head that he really wants to have a tattoo. Their evening with the clients turns out to be quite different from what they expected.

Ludwig is diagnosed with dementia, and Anne and Erik have very different ways of dealing with it. Together, they try to convey the consequences of this diagnosis to their son, but Leon shows surprisingly little emotion, while Anne seeks comfort and help. Quite unexpectedly, she finds both in Erik. Can their marriage still be saved? Current developments at the company suggest otherwise.

After an argument in the company, Anne draws a temporary line under her marriage with Erik. When she meets the attractive parents' representative of Leon's class, a potential replacement seems to be at hand. As a result, Erik also tries his luck on the dating market and ends up with Anne's colleague Vera, of all people. At the same time, Anne's parents develop their own strategies for dealing with Ludwig's dementia diagnosis.
