After surfing with Carter (recurring guest star BILLY CAMPBELL), Sandy suggests introducing him to a woman friend, to Kirsten's chagrin. When Summer finds out what Seth's potential graphic novel publisher, Reed (recurring guest star MARGUERITE MOREAU), is really like, Seth is in big trouble. And after leaving town in disgrace, Julie returns and surprisingly ends up reminiscing with an old acquaintance.

Marissa's mother, Julie, and Ryan's mentor, Sandy, try to keep the young couple apart.

Sadie (recurring guest star NIKKI REED) and Ryan go on a road trip to find one of Johnny's relatives. Although Ryan returns to his old "Chino" ways, the trip brings him and Sadie closer. Could this mean the end of Ryan and Marissa's relationship? Meanwhile, Marissa is implicated in Johnny's death, and Seth and Summer discover Julie and Dr. Roberts' (recurring guest star MICHAEL NOURI) secret. Musician TOM VEK performs.
