Tunde Adebimpe

Best known as the lead singer of Brooklyn-based band TV on the Radio, actor Tunde Adebimpe has also enjoyed a small film career. A graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts, the Nigerian-born, Pittsburgh-bred artist was raised by his father (an artist, psychiatrist, and social worker) and his mother (a pharmacist). After graduating from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Adebimpe starred in the 2001 indie film"Jump Tomorrow," directed by his friend and classmate Joel Hopkins. "Jump Tomorrow"was a small film with limited audience exposure, and Adebimpe was not widely seen on the big screen until 2008 when he played Sidney, the groom in the much-acclaimed Jonathan Demme film "Rachel Getting Married." His performance as the soon-to-be spouse of the titular Rachel gave him the opportunity to show off his musical side, when his character performs Neil Young's song "Unknown Legend" at the wedding. Though Adebimpe enjoyed some critical praise for his work in "Rachel Getting Married," music remains the defining element in his career. TV on the Radio describes itself as an art-rock band, and weaves together such disparate influences as jazz, punk, electroclash, and soul music. The band has collaborated with such celebrated musicians as The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead, and David Bowie. Adebimpe also has a professional background in animation and is married to cartoonist/illustrator Domitille Collardey.
