The Argentos are a dysfunctional middle-class family struggling to survive in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires despite the low income of the head of household, the extravagances of the mother and the blundering of the children.

Pepe Argento works at a shoe store; he is married with two children; his family always finds ways to prevent him from watching Racing Club soccer matches; Dardo and María Elena Fuseneco are a happy newlywed couple who has just moved next door.

Moni is convinced that Pepe no longer finds her attractive; on the advice of María Elena, Moni takes up a questionable diet.

Nervous about local crime, the Fusenecos get a guard dog, but Pepe one-ups them with a much more dangerous purchase.

With their tax refund, Dardo and María Elena plan to add another room to their house, but everything gets complicated when Pepe and Dardo want a soccer table, while Moni and María Elena want to have a gym.

Dardo manages to get a '72 IKA Torino; later, he realizes the car is a wreck, so he and Pepe decide to fix; their wives are furious because they invest a lot of time on the task.

Pepe and Moni go on vacation, leaving Paola and Coqui at Dardo and María Elena's place; the kids, sensing weakness, throw a party.
