S1, E14: When Hubert and Staller investigate a report of illegal garbage disposal at the edge of the forest, an unfortunate incident occurs in which Staller accidentally shoots a deer. The two are about to load animal on their car away when local reporter Barbara Hansen happens to appear at the "crime scene". To avoid making the headlines as a police officer shooting about wildly, Staller spontaneously invents a story: poachers are roaming the woods. Staller has no idea what he is unleashing with this tale. The reporter finds the story so interesting that she starts doing her own research. She learns from Toni Jäger that, for almost a year, he has repeatedly found the carcasses of red deer without heads and antlers in the woods around Wolfratshausen and has even reported this to the police. However, very much to the hunter's annoyance, the police have not taken any action so far. When Barbara Hansen then confronts police councilor Girwidz with the case, he feels compelled to act and puts Hubert and Staller on the case. From now on, Staller in particular has to fear that he will not only track down the real poachers, but deliver himself to the knife as well. Toni Jäger leads the duo to the feeding trough, where they discover that the poachers have been so active already that there is only one red stag left.
