S1, F1: For the first time on British television, Trevor McDonald takes viewers on an immersive journey into the American Mafia gaining close access to people who have experienced firsthand the money, glamour and violence of the United States' most famous organised crime network. Travelling to cities across the United States, Trevor gets inside the lives of people on all sides of the Mafia story, many of whom have never spoken on television before. From made men who have risen to the heights of power to ruthless killers who have pulled the trigger on the orders of their bosses, Trevor meets men and their families who today live in shadow of their time in the Mob. In this first episode, Trevor arrives in New York to meet John Alite, a former multimillionaire drug dealer who doubled as one of the most ruthless Mafia killers in modern times. On a walk down the streets that were once his domain, John tells Trevor what it is like to shoot a Mafia rival in cold blood. Trevor also meets Michael Mikey Scars DiLeonardo, a high-ranking Captain who, facing life in prison became the FBI’s most important Mafia witness of the 21st century. Across encounters in both Miami and New York, Mikey tells Trevor what it is like to live with the constant fear of death both for himself and his family at the hands of the Mafia brothers he chose to betray.
