Gardner Stern

Gardner Stern is an American TV producer and screenwriter best known for his work on the acclaimed NBC dramas "Law & Order," "NYPD Blue," and "The Practice." Stern earned his bachelor's degree in history at Yale before completing his master's in business administration at the University of Chicago. After seven years in advertising, Stern moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a television writer, joining the staff of "Capital News," a short-lived but critically well-received drama about Washington D.C. newspaper reporters. In the early 1990s Stern began writing scripts for two network tent-poles, ABC's gritty cop drama "NYPD Blue" and NBC's classic police procedural "Law & Order." By decade's end, Stern moved into a producing role on both shows. In the early 2000s, he moved on to the critically acclaimed legal drama "The Practice," the glitzy, soapy drama "Las Vegas," and James Woods's short-lived legal drama "Shark."
