Joe D’Amato war ein italienischer Filmregisseur und-produzent, Kameramann und Drehbuchautor. Er drehte an die 170 Hardcore- und Softerotikfilme und etwa 30 Action-, Fantasy-, Kriegs-, Western-, Piraten-, Horror- und Splatterfilme und gilt somit als wesentlicher Vertreter des europäischen Exploitation-Films.
