Murray Gold

Murray Gold is a British soundtrack composer, best known for his work updating the score of the long-running BBC series "Dr. Who," which chronicles the adventures of an alien time traveler and ran from 1963 to '89. In '05, producer Russell T. Davies resurrected the show, hiring the Portsmouth-born Gold to re-record the show's famous theme as well as compose the soundtrack. Gold took the original '63 theme song, a ground-breaking electronic recording, and sampled and updated the music, giving it a slight techno pulse. Gold was nominated in '08 for a BAFTA Award for his "Dr. Who" score. He has often worked with Davies, scoring the "Dr. Who" spin-offs "Torchwood" ('06) and "The Sarah Jane Adventures" (in '07) as well as "Queer as Folk" ('99) and "The Second Coming" ('03). Most of his work, mixing orchestral and electronic sounds, has been for British television but Gold has also composed the score for the '07 big screen comedy "Death at a Funeral."
