Lydia escorts a French couple to the border to meet their son, an `Agence France-Presse' correspondent in Ukraine. He informs them of his plans to marry Oksana, a Ukrainian woman with a young daughter.

Lydia accompanies Mykyta to the Moldovan border to pick up a parcel of medicines, but the young man has other plans. On the way, she meets up with Stas, the former artistic director of the Luhansk theatre.

At the request of Myroslav, Lydia picks up Tanya, an elderly lady, en route from Odessa. Tanya aims to see her grandson, Pavlo, before he leaves for the war front, hoping to give him an enigmatic violin.

Lydia takes 13-year-old soldier's daughter, Solya, to the Polish border, where Solya's father wants to pick her up. On the way, they make a stop that will have far-reaching consequences.
